IKARIA

Samos Prefecture, North Aegean Region

Ikaria shares many similarities with Samos in terms of relief and climate, with the mountainous vineyards being formed into terraces to cope with the slope of the soil and erosion. The island has been known since ancient times for the famous “Pramneion Wine”, a red and high-quality wine, as mentioned in ancient texts. The dominant variety in Ikaria is Mandilaria, followed by white and red varieties such as Assyrtiko, Athiri, Fokiano, Kotsifali and Begleri. Of particular interest are the white Begleri and the red Fokiano, which offer a distinct aromatic and taste profile to the local vineyard.
