The production zone of the PDO Mantinia was established in 1971 and is located in
the central-eastern part of the regional unit of Arcadia, in the Peloponnese. It covers
vineyards in many areas such as Tripoli (e.g. Agios Vasileios Mantinias, Agios
Konstantinos, Merkovouni), Tegea (Lithovouni, Magoula), Mantinia (Artemisio,
Nestani, Pikerni), Korythio (Zevgolatio, Partheni), Levidi (Levidi, Orchomenos) and
Doliana (Kouvli).
Wine region Mantinia is a plateau at an average altitude of approximately 660 meters, with surrounding slopes reaching up to 800 meters. It is
surrounded by the mountains of Mainalo, Oligyrtos, Artemisio, Ktenia and Parnonas.
The climate is Mediterranean with continental influences, characterized by cold
winters with rain and snow, as well as frequent storms in the summer. Low
temperatures cause slow ripening of the grapes, with the harvest taking place in
mid-October. Possible threats are hail and frost in the spring.
