Area: Northeastern Peloponnese, extending to the regional units of Corinth and
Argolida.
Main villages: Aidonia, Ancient Kleones, Ancient Nemea, Asprokampos, Galatas,
Daphne, Kastraki, Kefalari, Koutsi, Leontio, Bozika, Nemea, Petri, Titani, Psari
(Corinth), Gymno and Malandreni (Argolis).

Historical and cultural background

The area is associated with the ancient “Flyasian wine” and the myth of Hercules and the
Nemean lion. Tradition refers to Nemea wine as “the blood of Hercules” reinforcing
its historical and cultural value. Wine region and climate Area: Large, with altitudes
from 200 to 850 meters. Climate: Mediterranean with variations due to altitudes and
area. Subzones by altitude: Lowland vineyards (230-450 m.) Semi-mountainous (450-
650 m.) Mountainous (650-850 m.)
Each zone offers different characteristics in the grapes and different styles of wines.

 Wine characteristics

From fresh, fruity wines consumed young, to tannic, structured wines with great
aging potential. Aromas: Red fruits, sweet spices, flowers. Texture: Velvety, with a
noble flavor and refreshing acidity. Sweet wines: Dense, with marmalade aromas of
red fruits, produced in a very small percentage.
