PDO SAMOS

Types of wine produced

Sweet White (from sun-dried grapes)

Sweet White fortified

GRAPE VARIETY

100% Muscat White

The PDO Samos zone covers the north and parts of the central and southwestern
island, with vineyards mainly around Mount Karvouni and Kerki — in terraced areas
that favor viticulture. The Muscat white variety is the island’s “trademark” both
locally and internationally. Until 2016, production was concentrated in the Samos
Cooperative, which made the sweet Samian wine famous, while today private
wineries also participate. PDO Samos wines are sweet whites, either naturally sweet
from sun-dried grapes, or fortified (vin doux naturel). There is also the special
designation “Grand Cru” for wines from selected vineyards at high altitudes (above
400m), which usually have an even richer character.

Sweet, aromatic wine with a strong tradition and international reputation.
